November 19 (SeeNews) - The Romanian leu depreciated slightly versus the euro in calm trading on Monday, local dealers said.

The currency ended at 4.5342/5392 per euro compared to 4.5322/5372 on Friday.

“The leu opened at 4.5325/5365 per euro and changed hands between 4.5260/5310 and 4.5355/5405 during the trading session”, a local dealer told SeeNews.

Romania's central bank, BNR, set its reference exchange rate at 4.5349 lei per euro on Monday, compared to 4.5376 lei per euro on Friday. For the U.S. dollar, BNR set the reference exchange rate at 3.5512 lei versus 3.5637 lei on Friday.

BNR on Monday injected 6.0 billion lei in the interbank money market through a one-week repo deal at a rate of 5.25%, equal to its key monetary rate. Last Monday it also injected 6.0 billion lei in the interbank money market.

Turnover on the Romanian interbank leu deposit market grew to 1.22 billion lei on Friday from 1.11 billion lei on Thursday. The central bank will issue Monday's turnover figure on Tuesday.

Interest rates on overnight leu deposits climbed to 5.44%/5.94% from 5.38%/5.88% on Friday.
