December 17 (SeeNews) - The Romanian leu gained more ground versus the euro on Wednesday, interbank FX data indicated.

Romanian leu ends stronger vs euro

The local currency closed at 4.4731/4781 per euro compared to 4.4774/4829 per euro on Tuesday.

The leu changed hands between 4.4692 and 4.4832 against the euro during the trading session, real-time interbank FX data published by local portal Conso.ro indicated.

Romania's central bank, BNR, set its reference exchange rate at 4.4738 lei per euro, unchanged from Tuesday. For the U.S. dollar, BNR set its reference exchange rate at 3.5924 lei compared to 3.5818 lei a day earlier.

Turnover on the Romanian interbank leu deposit market fell to 333.2 million lei on Tuesday from 452 million lei on Monday. The central bank will issue Wednesday's turnover figure on Thursday.

Interest rates on overnight leu deposits was 0.10%/0.51 versus 0.11%/0.51% on Tuesday.
