December 31 (SeeNews) - The Romanian leu closed almost unchanged versus the euro on Tuesday, interbank foreign exchange market data showed.

Romanian leu ends little changed vs euro

The local currency closed at 4.4700/4777 per euro compared to 4.4700/4750 on Monday.

The leu changed hands between 4.4713 and 4.4846 per euro during the last trading session of 2013, real-time quotes from the interbank forex market published by local portal Conso.ro indicated.

Romania's central bank, BNR, set its reference exchange rate at 4.4847 lei per euro compared to 4.4639 per euro on Monday. For the U.S. dollar, BNR set its reference exchange rate at 3.2551 lei versus 3.2458 lei on Monday.

Turnover on the Romanian interbank leu deposit market fell to 1.6 billion lei on Monday from 2.0 billion lei on Friday. The central bank will issue Tuesday's turnover figure on Friday. Wednesday and Thursday are public and market holidays in Romania due to the New Year celebration.

Interest rates on overnight leu deposits increased to 1.24%/1.74% from 1.16%/1.66% on Monday.
