April 23 (SeeNews) - The Romanian leu ended almost unchanged versus the euro on Wednesday, dealers said.
The local currency closed at 4.4656/4706 per euro, compared to 4.4660/4690 on Tuesday.
"The leu opened at 4.4642 per euro and changed hands between 4.4540 and 4.4700, the fluctuations mirroring the euro/U.S. dollar exchange rate," a local dealer told SeeNews.
Romania's central bank, BNR, set its reference exchange rate at 4.4698 per euro, compared to 4.4660 lei per euro on Tuesday. For the U.S. dollar, BNR set its reference exchange rate at 3.2292 lei versus 3.2356 lei on Tuesday.
Turnover on the Romanian interbank leu deposit market increased to 2.92 billion lei on Tuesday from 1.78 billion lei on Friday. The market was closed on Monday due to the Easter holiday. The central bank will issue Wednesday's turnover figure on Thursday.
Interest rates on overnight leu deposits rose to 3.93%/4.43% from 2.50%/3.00% on Tuesday.
