August 11 (SeeNews) - The Romanian leu eased versus the euro on Tuesday in calm trading, dealers said.

The leu ended at 4.2140/2170 per euro, compared to 4.2070/2100 per euro on Monday

The leu depreciated in line with its regional peers, especially the Polish zloty, on lower risk appetite, one dealer told SeeNews.

The Romanian central bank, BNR, set its reference exchange rate at 4.2143 per euro on Tuesday, compared to 4.2088 per euro on Monday. For the U.S. dollar, the BNR set the reference exchange rate at 2.9773 versus Monday’s 2.9665.

Turnover on the interbank leu deposit market rose to some 1.851 billion lei on Monday from 1.525 billion lei on Friday. The BNR will issue Tuesday’s figures on Wednesday.

Interest rates on overnight leu deposits rose to 8.20%/8.70% on Tuesday from 8.07%/8.57% on Monday.
