September 10 (SeeNews) - The Romanian leu firmed slightly versus the euro on Monday in calm trading, dealers said.

The leu ended at 4.4720/4750 per euro compared to 4.4760/4790 on Friday. It closed at 4.4830/4855 on Thursday.

The currency opened at 4.4730/4750 per euro and eased to an intraday low of 4.4810 in early trading, but firmed later, a local dealer told SeeNews.

Romania's central bank, BNR, set its reference exchange rate at 4.4792 lei per euro, compared to 4.4741 lei on Friday. For the U.S. dollar, BNR set the reference exchange rate at 3.5049 lei versus 3.5287 lei on Friday.

BNR on Monday injected in the interbank money market 12.57 billion lei through a one-week repo deal at a rate of 5.25%, equal to its key monetary rate.

Turnover on the Romanian interbank leu deposit market rose to 1.13 billion lei on Friday from 681.4 million lei on Thursday. The central bank will issue Monday's turnover figure on Tuesday.

Interest rates on overnight leu deposits grew to 4.81%/5.31% on Monday from 4.79%/5.29% on Friday.
