September 17 (SeeNews) - The Romanian leu closed stronger versus the euro on Thursday amid dull trading and low volatility, dealers said.
The leu ended at 4.2585/2625 per euro, compared to 4.2635/2650 per euro on Wednesday.
"The leu largely ignored the big moves of the currencies on the other emerging markets in the region. Nothing interesting happened today," one dealer told SeeNews.
He sees the leu depreciating to 4.3 per euro by the end of September.
The Romanian central bank, BNR, set its reference exchange rate at 4.2579 per euro on Thursday, compared to 4.2618 per euro on Wednesday. For the U.S. dollar, the BNR set the reference exchange rate at 2.8873 versus Wednesday’s 2.9009.
Turnover on the interbank leu deposit market rose to 2.784 billion lei on Wednesday from 2.741 billion lei on Tuesday. The BNR will issue Thursday’s turnover figures on Friday.
Interest rates on overnight leu deposits fell to 7.58%/8.08% on Thursday from 7.74%/8.24% on Wednesday.
