March 4 (SeeNews) - Romanian power distribution system operator (DSO) Retele Electrice Dobrogea, part of Greek power utility Public Power Corp (PPC), said it will invest more than 67 million lei ($14.6 million/13.4 million euro) to overhaul the energy infrastructure in the southeastern Navodari area.

The modernisation works will cover the primary station in the seaside town of Navodari and the medium-voltage power lines in the area, Retele Electrice said in a press release on Friday.

The two projects will be partly financed via EU funds obtained through the Modernisation Fund and will benefit around 27,500 customers.

The projects are expected to be completed within about 24 months, with minimal disruption to electricity distribution services. The company plans to use monitoring and predictive maintenance systems to avoid network disruptions.

The company is already working to modernise the Navodari 110/20 kV substation as part of an ongoing self-funded project worth 20 million lei, which aims to replace transformers, switchgear, and control systems to improve the network's efficiency and reliability.

Retele Electrice runs three distribution companies that operate electrical networks with a total length of over 133,000 kilometres, including 287 primary stations and 24,000 substations in the Romanian regions of Muntenia, Banat, and Dobrogea.

In October 2023, PPC acquired Enel Romania, the former parent company of Retele Electrice, for a total of 1.24 billion euro.
