Romania plans to issue 4.6 bln lei (1.0 bln euro) of debt paper in Jan

December 27 (SeeNews) - Romania plans to issue 4.6 billion lei ($1.4 billion/1.0 billion euro) worth of government securities in January to re-finance public debt and shore up its budget deficit, the finance ministry said.

In December, the ministry sold nearly 8.1 billion lei in government securities on the domestic market compared to 3.1 billion lei planned initially.

The ministry will hold two auctions of 364-day discount Treasury bills worth 500 million lei each on January 7 and January 14, it said in a statement posted on its website on Thursday. Another auction for 182-day discount Treasury bills worth 300 million lei will be held on January 21.

The ministry will also hold an auction for two-year benchmark T-notes worth 800 million lei on January 7 and four-year T-notes worth 600 million lei will be offered on January 10.

One auction for three-year benchmark T-notes worth 800 million lei is scheduled for January 14.

The ministry will also auction five-year benchmark T-notes worth 500 million lei on January 17 and 10-year benchmark T-bonds worth 600 million lei on January 24, it added.

Romania sold 58.2 billion lei and 763.3 million euro ($1.0 billion) in government securities on the domestic market this year. It also sold $2.25 billion in dollar-denominated bonds on the U.S. market and 2.25 billion euro in euro-denominated bonds on international markets in 2012.
