The planned increase is the result of the government's support scheme for renewable energy producers, news agency Mediafax (www.mediafax.ro) said.
Under a funding agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), regulated prices for the power supplied to industrial consumers and households in Romania will be eliminated fully by end-2013 and end-2017, respectively.
Electricity tariffs in Romania are regulated by the power market watchdog, ANRE. The European Commission and the IMF have asked the Romanian government to liberalise the energy market in order to bring prices in line with EU levels.
