February 23 (SeeNews) - Romania’s road infrastructure company, CNAIR, has launched two tenders worth up to a cumulative 7.1 billion lei ($1.5 billion/1.4 billion euro) for the construction of two segments of the Arad-Oradea expressway, data published on the country's public procurement portal, SEAP, showed on Friday.

Connecting the western cities of Arad and Oradea, the expressway will span 120.5 km, segmented into three lots worth an estimated 8.5 billion lei, the country’s transportation minister Sorin Grindeanu said in a broadcast of a press conference earlier this month.

The first tender targets the construction of a 33.7 km lot, estimated at between 2.7 billion lei and 3.1 billion lei, with bidders being able to submit offers until April 10, 2024. The second tender, estimated at between 3.5 billion lei and 4 billion lei, is aimed at a 47.1 km lot, with the submission deadline set for April 11.

Both lots must be completed within 24 months, with each lot being covered by a 60-month warranty.

The construction of the expressway is financed through funds from Romania’s Transport Programme (PoT) 2021-2027, a 9.6 billion euro EU-backed programme financed through non-refundable European funds and the state budget.

The construction of the expressway will also include twelve road junctions, four maintenance and coordination centres and 86 bridges and passages.

The expressway is part of the Three Seas Initiative, an EU and U.S.-promoted scheme that aims to boost investment, infrastructure development and energy security among the countries bordering the Baltic, Black, and Adriatic seas.
