The works will be financed by non-refundable external funds received through the 2021-2027 Transport Programme, CFR said in a press release on Friday. The value of the contracts is 5.17 billion lei and 2.21 billion lei, respectively.
The contracts have a six-year duration, with one year being allocated to the design stage and five years for the execution of the works. Bids will be accepted until July 1, 2024.
The works are part of a larger project for upgrading the 225.3 km long Craiova-Drobeta Turnu Severin-Caransebes railway section stretching from southern to western Romania. Upon completion of this project, the modernised railway section will enable train speeds of between 120 km/h and 160 km/h.
Romania's 2021-2027 Transport Programme is a strategic initiative designed to modernise the country's transportation infrastructure. With a total value of 9.6 billion euro, the programme receives 4.6 billion euro in funding from the European Union.
