November 27 (SeeNews) - Romania has awarded infrastructure contracts, worth more than 2.0 billion lei ($666.5 million/519 million euro), for 12 projects, including motorway and beltway construction and renovation.

Romania Awards Over 2.0 Bln Lei (519 Mln Euro) in Infastructure Contracts

The largest contract, worth almost 634.4 million lei, is for the construction of a stretch linking the Danube fluvial port town of Cernavoda and the city of Medgidia, in southern Romania, and it was awarded to the French company Colas, the Transport Ministry said in a statement late on Wednesday. The project, like most of the rest, is financed by the European Investment Bank.

Contract winners include Italy's Astaldi, Spanish FCC Construccion and Austria's Strabag.

The investments are part of a government strategy to revamp the country's motorway network, bringing it up to European standards, Transport Minister Ludovic Orban said.
