February 28 (SeeNews) - The share of managers of accommodation facilities in Bulgaria expecting to close their business in the short term due to the coronavirus crisis slightly rose on a monthly comparison basis in January, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said.
As many as 1.9% of Bulgarian accommodation facilities' managers expect to discontinue their operations in a month's time in January, the NSI said in a statement, citing the results of a monthly survey conducted among over 1,700 managers of hotels, campsites, holiday villages and other accommodation establishments.
In December, 1.7% of accommodation facility managers said they expect to shut down their business in the short term.
The results of the latest survey show that in January 31.3% of accommodation facilities planned to maintain their operations in February, albeit at a lower capacity, a fall from 37.5% a month before.
The share of accommodation facilities that planned to continue to operate as usual was 53% in January, up from 46% in December. Some 13% of the respondents said they plan to temporarily suspend their operations, compared to 13.2% in December.
As many as 49.7% of accommodation facilities recorded a decrease in their operating revenues on a monthly comparison basis in January, up from 35.6% in the last month of 2021. At the same time, 42.4% saw no change, while 7.5% of the managers said their facilities saw a monthly revenue increase.
In January, less than half of the managers, 46%, expected that they will be able to service up to 50% of their operating expenses with own funds in February, while 25% said they will be unable to service any expenses with own funds. Some 29% said they will be able to service up to 100% of their operating expenses in a month's time.
