Passenger traffic at Croatia's seaports up 3.4% y/y in Jan-Sept

November 14 (SeeNews) - Passenger traffic at Croatia's seaports rose 3.4% on the year to 30.6 million in the first nine months of this year, the country's statistical office said on Tuesday.

Cargo traffic of the Croatian Adriatic ports stood at almost 17.9 million tonnes in the January-September period and was unchanged compared to the same period of last year, the Croatian Bureau of Statistics said in a quarterly report. Ship arrivals numbered 287,750 in the period under review, up 2.9% on the year.

Alone in the third quarter, passenger traffic at the Croatian Adriatic ports increased 0.9% on the year to 18.3 million passengers.

The total traffic of goods in the third quarter of 2023 amounted to 5.8 million tonnes, up 3.5% on the year. Its growth was driven mostly by a 4.8% annual increase in traffic of liquid goods, which accounted for 48% of the total traffic of goods. Traffic of dry bulk goods went up 4.0% and it had a share of 29% in the total traffic of goods. Traffic of containerised goods, in tonnes, increased 0.9% and its share in the total traffic of goods equalled 17%.

The port in Bakar registered the highest annual increase,17%, in traffic of goods at the seaports in the July-September period of 2023, followed by the ports in Split (11.6%), Omisalj (5.3%), and Rijeka (0.4%), while the port in Ploce reported an 8.2% drop in traffic. These five ports accounted for 92% of the total traffic of goods in seaports in the third quarter of this year.

Ship arrivals in the third quarter of this year rose 0.2% year-on-year to 140,195.
