The passenger volume at Burgas Airport jumped by 19.3% on the year to 52,565 last month, whereas passengers at Varna Airport declined by 10.3% to 114,728, Fraport Group, majority owner of the airports operator Fraport Twin Star Airport Management, said in a monthly traffic report.
The total passenger numbers at both airports amounted to 114.8% of the traffic recorded in the same month of pre-pandemic 2019.
In the first ten months of 2023, combined traffic at the two coastal airports totalled 3.51 million passengers, up by an annual 19.6%, with Burgas Airport contributing 1.83 million passengers, data showed.
Cargo handled at the Varna and Burgas airports slumped by 85.8% year-on-year to 22 tonnes in the review month. For the ten months through October, cargo was 69.5% less than a year earlier, at 1,756 tonnes.
Aircraft take-offs and landings at both airports rose by an annual 2.6% to 1,446 in October and by 14.8% to 25,421 in the ten months overall.
