BELGRADE (Serbia), October 7 (SeeNews) – An offer by Serbian car manufacturer Zastava to sell part of the equipment of its Kragujevac-based factory before launching joint production at the facility with Fiat has drawn the interest of more than 10 local and foreign companies, local Glas Javnosti daily reported on Tuesday.

According to Zastava's trade union chairman Zoran Mihajlovic, Zastava will finance social programmes for its workers with proceeds from the sales of its current equipment, the daily said. It gave no figures for the value of the planned sales.

The newspaper also quoted Kragujevac deputy mayor Nebojsa Zdravkovic as saying a Slovenian company was interested in buying a gearbox wheel production line for an undisclosed sum.

Serbia's government and Fiat signed two deals worth a combined 1.18 billion euro ($1.7 billion) last week for the establishment of a joint venture company for the manufacturing of Fiat cars in the factory in Kragujevac, in central Serbia.
