May 21 (SeeNews) - US green hydrogen company Ohmium International said that it has been selected to supply equipment for the first green hydrogen project in Croatia.

"Ohmium was selected to serve as the PEM electrolyzer supplier for IVICOM, a leading Croatian engineering and construction company, on a project to build a 10 MW green hydrogen plant at the INA Rijeka Refinery," Ohmium said in a press release on Monday.

A PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) electrolyzer is a device used to produce hydrogen gas through electrolysis.

The project will pair Ohmium’s PEM electrolyzers with a new solar power plant to produce green hydrogen to help decarbonize INA’s Rijeka Refinery. The green hydrogen project and affiliated solar plant are supported by the Croatian government’s recovery and resilience facility, which includes measures to improve the sustainability and diversity of EU members’ energy supplies.

The project also contributes to Croatia’s national hydrogen strategy goals, aiming to establish 70 MW of hydrogen production facilities by 2030, with a further increase to 2750 MW by 2050. These efforts are part of Croatia's efforts to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

However, in mid-May, INA said it has signed two contracts related to the planned construction of renewable energy facilities - the green hydrogen plant in Rijeka and a biomethane plant in Sisak, with a combined value of 98 million euro ($106 million).

Hungarian energy group MOL, is the largest shareholder in INA, followed by the Croatian government.

INA’s shares last traded on Monday on the Zagreb bourse, when they closed flat at 500 euro.
