N. Macedonia's trade gap widens 27% y/y in Jan-Feb

April 5 (SeeNews) - North Macedonia's trade deficit increased to a total of 33.1 billion denars ($582.7 million/537.9 million euro) in the first two months of the year, from 26.1 billion denars in the same period of 2023, the country's statistical office said on Friday.

Exports decreased 9.9% on the year to 74.5 billion denars in the January-February period, while imports fell 1.1% to 107.6 billion denars, Makstat said in a statement.

North Macedonia's exports mainly consisted of supported catalysts with precious metal or precious metal compounds as the active substance, ignition wiring sets and other wiring sets used in motor vehicles, aircraft or ships, parts of seats and other supporter catalysts.

The country predominantly imported petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, metals of the platinum group and alloys and electricity.

North Macedonia's main trading partners in January and February were Germany, the UK, Greece, Serbia and Bulgaria.
