Net electricity output rose by 16.2% year-on-year in 2023, to 6,433 GWh, Makstat said in a statement, citing preliminary data.
Thermal power plants contributed the largest portion of gross electricity production in 2023, generating 3,290 GWh, down 1.7% compared to 2022. Hydro power plants generated 1,623 GWh, up 20.6% year-on-year.
Wind parks' output went up 46.4% to 157.6 GWh in the year under review, while solar parks produced 307.5 GWh, up from just 76.8 GWh in 2022.
Electricity generated by cogeneration plants and auto-production thermal power stations totalled 1,383 GWh, up 39.5% year-on-year. Biogas plants generated 65.2 GWh of electricity in 2023, some 27% higher compared with a year earlier.
North Macedonia’s electricity imports decreased to 1,470 GWh in 2023 from 1,936 GWh in 2022. Electricity exports totalled 1,319 GWh in 2023, compared to 523.2 GWh exported the previous year.
Distribution losses decreased 1.6% on the year to 956.4 GWh in 2023.
