N. Macedonia's gross power output down 13.6% y/y in Sept

November 24 (SeeNews) - North Macedonia's gross electricity production decreased by an annual 13.6% in September, to 419,891 MWh, the statistical office said on Friday.

Net electricity output fell by 8.7% year-on-year in September, to 396,006 MWh, Makstat said in a statement, citing preliminary data.

Thermal power plants contributed the largest portion of gross electricity production in September, generating 194,963 MWh, down 17.6% compared to the same month in 2022. Hydro power plants generated 75,938 MWh, down 14.7% year-on-year.

Wind parks' output went down 1.5% to 7,676 MWh in the month under review, while solar parks produced 6,467 MWh, up 65.3% on the year.

Electricity generated by cogeneration plants and auto-production thermal power stations totalled 131,525 MWh, down from 147,042 MWh in September 2022. Biogas plants generated 3,323 MWh of electricity in September 2023, up 107.8% on the year.

North Macedonia’s electricity imports increased to 143,285 MWh in September 2023 from 69,297 MWh in September 2022. Electricity exports totalled 132,979 MWh in September, compared to 119,522 MWh exported in the same month of last year.

Distribution losses increased 7.3% on the year to 41,468 MWh in September.
