N. Macedonia's gross electricity output down 35% y/y in Mar

May 27 (SeeNews) - North Macedonia's gross electricity production decreased by an annual 35.3% in March, to 455,607 MWh, the statistical office said on Monday.

Net electricity output fell to 427,947 MWh, from 661,657 MWh in the same month of last year, Makstat said in a statement, citing preliminary data.

Thermal power plants contributed the largest portion of gross electricity production in March. However, their production dropped 39.1% year-on-year, to 220,566 MWh. Hydro power plants generated 131,021 MWh, down 27.2%.

Wind parks' output rose 48.7% to 16,290 MWh in the month under review, while solar parks increased their electricity output 6.1% on the year to 18,124 MWh.

North Macedonia’s electricity imports nearly trebled to 194,309 MWh in March 2024, from 66,791 MWh in March 2023. Electricity exports fell 42.6% year-on-year to 72,942 MWh.

Distribution losses slightly decreased to 77,217 MWh, from 77,850 MWh in last year’s March.

North Macedonia's gross electricity production increased by an annual 15.3% in 2023, to 6,826 GWh, the statistical office said earlier.
