CHISINAU (Moldova), October 7 (SeeNews) – Out of Moldova's 312 fully or partially state-owned companies, 160 ended the first half of the year in the black, recording a combined net profit of 541.7 million lei ($48.5 million/32.9 million euro), Finance Ministry data indicated on Wednesday.
The rest of the companies posted a combined net loss of 219.3 million lei, the ministry said in a statement.
Some 57 companies active mainly in the construction and infrastructure sectors reported a fall in their profit in the first half of 2009. The number of firms, which swung to loss in the first half, stood at 56, while the number of companies which reported loss totalled 151.
Moldova’s flag air carrier Air Moldova, railway carrier Calea Ferata din Moldova, spirits maker Aroma and carpet maker Floare-Carpet were among the biggest losers in the review period, the ministry said.
