Montenegro's trade gap widens 10% in 2023

February 9 (SeeNews) - Montenegro’s trade deficit rose by 10% last year, reaching 3.13 billion euro ($3.38 billion), the country's statistical office said.

Exports fell by 3.7% on the year to 674.3 million euro in 2023, while imports increased 7.7% to 3.8 billion euro, the statistical office said in a statement on Thursday.

Montenegro's key export destinations in 2023 were Serbia with 190.8 million euro worth of exports, Bosnia and Herzegovina with 75.5 million euro and Slovenia with 73.5 million euro.

The majority of imports into the country, 661.7 million euro, originated in Serbia. China followed with 424.7 million euro, and Germany ranked third with 368.2 million euro.

In 2022, Montenegro’s trade gap widened by 37% to 2.84 billion euro.
