February 23 (SeeNews) - Montenegrin teachers called off their strike on Thursday, agreeing to a government proposal to increase their wages by 10% gross starting in July and by a cumulative 17% net as of September, local media reported.
The proposal was presented for a vote to the main committee of Montenegro's education trade union. Out of all 46 committee members, 43 approved the offer, two voted against and one abstained, trade union head Radomir Bozovic was quoted as saying by broadcaster RTCG on Thursday.
"This means the committee has decided that we are accepting the proposal," Bozovic said.
The trade union launched the strike on Monday after its two-month negotiations with the education ministry over higher wages failed. Teachers demanded a 10% pay rise as of January 2024, as agreed with the government two years ago.
