May 14 (SeeNews) - Montenegro's sole thermal power plant TE Pljevlja, part of state-run utility Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG), generated 429.5 GWh of electricity in the first three months of 2024, meeting 33% of its annual target, EPCG said.

Thereafter, since the start of April, TE Pljevlja has been disconnected from the grid for a regular annual maintenance that will last two months, EPCG said in the latest edition of its monthly newsletter.

The cost of the maintenance works is 2.9 million euro ($3.1 million). It includes an overhaul of the engine room, the boiler facilities and the coal dust systems, among others.

Earlier this month, EPCG's executive director, Ivan Bulatovic, told local media that TE Pljevlja will carry out a bigger 67 million euro overhaul next year aimed at cutting its negative impact on the environment and increasing its life span.

TE Pljevlja contributes 225 MW to EPCG's total installed generation capacities of 877 MW. Further 649 MW come from EPCG's two big hydro power plants, Perucica and Piva. EPCG also operates several small hydropower plants.

EPCG said in January that TE Pljevlja achieved a record-high electricity production of 1,642 GWh in 2023.
