February 6 (SeeNews) - Deponija, the waste management company of Montenegrin capital Podgorica, plans to build a bioenergy plant and a waste-to-energy incinerator, the company's head said.

"The bioenergy plant project has already been launched and we will soon open a tender for drawing its feasibility study," Deponija head Aleksandar Bozovic said in a video published on the Facebook profile of Podgorica's city administration over the weekend.

Regional news agency eKapija reported on Monday that according to Bozovic the bioenergy plant will cost 1.7 million euro ($1.8 million), while the incinerator could require an investment of up to 100 million euro.

The incinerator would be built on an area of 600 to 800 square metres. Depending on whether it will produce both electricity and heat, and whether it will cover the needs of Montenegro or Podrorica and its region alone, the project will cost between 35 million euro and 100 million euro, eKapija quoted Bozovic as saying.

Bozovic noted that the project already has a location study, i.e. the company has designated a plot of land for the construction of the plant.

The project will be financed by a credit that should be repaid in the first 5-6 years of the plant's operations, Bozovic added without providing any financial details.

He noted that Deponija will receive 1 million euro ($1.1 million) from the Podgorica city budget this year, for procurement of machinery and for the launch of the new projects.

The incinerator could be built by the end of 2028, he added.
