PODGORICA (Montenegro), December 14 (SeeNews) – Montenegrin Economy Ministry said it is seeking a consultant to advise it on the awarding of a coal exploration concession and subsequent construction of a 500-megawatt thermal power plant.
The estimated value of the consultancy contract is 80,000 euro ($117,144). Eligible bidders can apply until December 28, the ministry said in a tender notice on its website on Friday.
In November, Montenegro launched a prequalification tender for awarding the coal mining concession that will cover an area of 14.5 square kilometers in the Maoce coal reserve, in northestern Montenegro, located 15 kilometres by air from the country’s Pljevlja power plant. The concession comes with a condition to build a power plant.
The deadline for filing prequalification bids is February 6, 2010.
Montenegro has an installed generation capacity of 868 MW. It suffers persistent power shortages and imports a third of the electricity it needs.
Almost two-thirds of its electricity output is generated by two big hydro power plants, Perucica and Piva, and around one-third is contributed by its sole thermal power plant Pljevlja.
