November 11 (SeeNews) - Transdniestria's October monthly inflation accelerated to 1.0% from 0.6% in September, the economy ministry of Moldova's breakaway region said on Wednesday.
Food prices grew by 1.19% month-on-month, while non-food prices posted a 0.18% gain in October, the ministry said in a statement. Services prices rose by 1.76% last month, it added.
The region's end-year inflation slowed to 25.11% in 2008 from 29.42% in 2007.
The region, with a population of 700,000, considers itself an independent state. Moldova has offered it broad autonomy but Transdniestria, led by President Igor Smirnov, is seeking full independence.
