October 1 (SeeNews) - The industrial output of Moldova's breakaway region of Transdniestria fell by an annual 37.7% in January-August this year, Transdniestria's central bank said on Thursday.
The region's industrial production in January to August totalled some 289 million euro ($422 million), the bank said in a statement. It provided no further details.
Transdniestria is located on the eastern bank of the River Dniestr in eastern Moldova. It broke away from Moldova in 1990 as its largely Slavic, pro-Russian population feared that the country's Romanian-speaking majority would unite with neighbouring Romania.
