In nominal terms, the average gross wage rose 17% last year, the National Bureau of Statistics said in a statement.
In the fourth quarter alone, the average monthly gross salary amounted to 13,401 lei, up by a nominal 16% on the year and by 10.3% in real terms.
The average gross salary in the public sector was 11,618.5 lei in the fourth quarter of 2023, jumping by 17% on the year in nominal terms. In the private sector, the gross wage was 14,024 lei, up by a nominal 16%.
In the fourth quarter of 2023, the information and communications technology (ICT) sector recorded the highest average gross salary at 31,367 lei, marking a 9.2% increase in nominal terms compared to the same period of the previous year. At the opposite end stood the accommodation and food services sector, with a gross wage of 8,163.4 lei, up by 10.8% on the year.
The average number of employees inched up by an annual 0.6% in the fourth quarter of 2023.
