Moldovan Insurers' 9-mo Gross Profit Rises 70% Y/Y

November 20 (SeeNews) - The nine-month combined gross profit of Moldovan insurance companies rose by 70% on the year to 117.3 million lei ($11.3 million/9.0 million euro, the country's Securities Commission, CNPF, said on Thursday.

The total premium income of the 33 insurance companies operating in Moldova was 633.1 million lei in the first nine months of 2008, up from 512.7 million lei a year earlier, CNPF said in a statement.

It added that the indemnities paid by Moldovan insurers rose to 189.1 million lei through September from 154.4 million lei a year earlier.

The combined assets of Moldovan insurers grew by an annual 28% to 1.29 billion lei in at the end of September.

Moldasig and ASITO were the largest insurers in terms of premium income in Moldova in the period.
