September 29 (SeeNews) - The average monthly salary in Moldova, one of Europe's poorest nations, rose by an annual 5.6% in nominal terms to 2,757 lei ($237/162 euro) in August, the country's statistics office said on Tuesday.

The August average salary was 8.0% higher on the year in real terms, the statistics office said in a statement.

The average monthly salary was 2,298 lei in the public sector and 3,019 lei in the private sector in August.
