Moldova 9-mo budget deficit shrinks 42.6%

October 19 (SeeNews) - Moldova's consolidated budget deficit narrowed to 808 million lei ($66.2 million/50.7 million euro) in January-September from 1.408 billion lei a year ago, finance ministry data showed.

Consolidated budget revenue increased by 12.7% to 23.94 billion lei in January-September, while spending rose 9.3% to 24.75 billion lei, according to data published on the ministry's website.

Moldova paid 133 million lei to service its foreign debt over the review period while the government paid 392.6 million lei on its domestic debt.

Moldova's consolidated budget includes the central government budget, the local budgets, the social insurance budget and the public health insurance budget.

In June, the Moldovan government approved a budget revision raising the consolidated budget deficit target for this year to 1.32% of the projected gross domestic product (GDP), or 1.193 billion lei, from the 0.9% projected earlier.

The country ended last year with a preliminary consolidated budget gap of 1.96 billion lei, overshooting the projections for a 1.596 billion lei deficit.
