February 12 (SeeNews) - Finnish industrial technology and services provider Metso said on Monday that it was awarded a contract worth over 10 million euro ($10.8 million) from copper producer Aurubis Bulgaria, part of Germany's Aurubis, to deliver its advanced Outotec cooling elements.

Metso will supply the cooling solution and related advisory services to Aurubis' copper plant in the central-west Bulgarian town of Pirdop as part of a project to rebuild its copper flash smelting furnace, the company said in a press release.

The Outotec flash smelting furnace has been operational at Aurubis' copper smelter since 1987 and underwent its last upgrade in 2016, Metso added.

In November, Aurubis said it is putting 46 million euro towards boosting copper yield from slag processing operations at its Pirdop facility and making the flash smelter operations more environmentally sustainable.
