May 23 (SeeNews) - European missile maker MBDA said on Thursday that it has signed a contract with Romanian state-run aircraft repair and maintenance company IAR Brasov [BSE:IARV] to provide its Marte ER missile system for use by Romanian Naval Forces helicopters.
The missile system will be integrated onto maritime helicopters based on the Airbus H215M platform in order to enhance the Romanian Navy's anti-surface warfare capabilities, MBDA said in a press release.
The value of the contract was not disclosed.
The Marte ER is designed to operate in all weather conditions and has an effective lethal range of over 100 km, as per the statement. It is currently integrated on several platforms used by the Italian Armed Forces and various export customers.
IAR Brasov is an aerospace manufacturer founded in 1925. It is based in Ghimbav, near Romania's central city of Brasov, and carries out maintenance, repairs and upgrades of military helicopters and supply of spare parts.
IAR Brasov made its debut on the main market of the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) in July 2015, moving from the over-the-counter market Rasdaq. Romania owns a 64.89% stake in the company, according to bourse data.
Shares in IAR Brasov traded flat at 14.15 ($3.08/2.84 euro) lei as at 1516 CET on Thursday on the BVB.
