Macedonia's Q3 Business Sentiment Index in Retail Sector Rises

November 14 (SeeNews) - Macedonia's business sentiment index in the retail sector rose in the third quarter of 2008 as managers perceived the business climate in the country to be more favourable than in the same period of 2007, the Statistics Office said on Friday.

The third-quarter business sentiment indicator, based on expectations of managers in the retail sector, rose by 2.0 points from the previous quarter, the Statistics Office said in a statement.

Retail managers said prices in the third quarter have increased compared to the second quarter, but are optimistic about the selling prices in the next 3-4 months, the statement said.

The biggest challenges before retail managers in the third quarter were weak demand (24.6%) and increased competitiveness (19.7%), the statement said.

NOTE: The Statistics Office releases monthly data for business sentiment index (BSI) in manufacturing industry, and quarterly data for BSI in the construction and retail sectors.
