Macedonian Banks' End-August Credit Portfolio Falls 0.2% M/M, Up 9.3% Y/Y

September 29 (SeeNews) - The credit portfolio of Macedonian commercial banks reached 175.326 billion denars ($4.1 billion/2.9 billion euro) at the end of August, 0.2% down from a month earlier and 9.3% higher on the year, Macedonia's central bank, NBRM, said on Tuesday.

Loans to households rose by an annual 10.2% to 72.147 billion denars and were 0.02% higher on the month in August, NBRM said in a monthly report. Credits to companies rose by 8.9% on the year and were 0.3% lower on the month at 102.978 billion denars.

The Macedonian banks' deposit portfolio, which includes time and savings deposits in foreign and domestic currency, totalled 177.642 billion denars at the end of August, up by 0.5% on the year and 2.8% higher on the month.

Retail deposits amounted to 115.318 billion denars, up 0.6% on the month and 10% higher on the year. The deposits of companies rose 7.7% on the month and were 20.3% down on the year, reaching 53.635 billion denars.

Eighteen commercial banks operate in Macedonia, a country of around two million people.
