SKOPJE (Macedonia), November 13 (SeeNews) – The Macedonian Transport Ministry is due to call on Friday a prequalification tender for a concession on several road sections aimed at improving the country’s infrastructure.
The concession activities covered by the 35-year arrangement are construction, reconstruction, maintenance and management with toll booths, the ministry said in a statement posted on its website on Thursday.
The road sections are divided in two regional pools: eastern, with a total length of 177.5 kilometres, and western, with a combined length of 196 kilometres.
The eastern pool includes the following sections: Kriva Palanka-Romanovce, Kocani-Stip, Miladinovci-Stip, Miladinovci-Skopje and the Skopje beltway. The road sections in the western part of the country are as follows: Stenkovec-Blace, Gostivar-Kafasan, Trebenista-Ohrid, Podmolje-Struga and Gostivar-Tetovo-Skopje, the statement said.
The bidding deadline in the prequalification phase of the project will expire on January 15 with the shortlisted candidates advancing to the next phase of the tender, it said.
According to the tender conditions, eligible candidates are local and foreign companies and consortia that can certify an annual turnover of at least 500 million euro in the last three years.
According to initial estimates, the concessionaire will have to invest some 1.0 billion euro ($1.49 billion) in the whole project, the ministry said.
Macedonia currently has 1,116 kilometres of main roads and 3,806 kilometres of regional roads.
