February 5 (SeeNews) - Greek airline Lumiwings will launch flights from Bosnia and Herzegovina's Tuzla to Turkey's Istanbul on March 5, the government of Tuzla canton said.
Lumiwings will run the service twice per week, on Tuesdays and Sundays, the government of Tuzla canton said in a press release on Friday.
The air carrier already operates flights from Tuzla to Sweden's Stockholm and Halmstad, Netherlands' Maastricht, Germany's Saarbrucken, Memmingen and Dortmund, Denmark's Esbjerg and France's Basel-Mulhouse airport.
Lumiwing in early December signed a contract with Tuzla airport to open a base at the airport and launch six routes after being selected as the winner in a public call for the introduction of new flights to Tuzla.
Passenger numbers at Tuzla airport increased to 582,336 in 2023, from 466,596 a year earlier.
Tuzla airport is one of Bosnia's four international airports. The others are situated in Sarajevo, Mostar and Banja Luka.
The Tuzla Canton is one of ten cantons making up the Federation, one of two autonomous entities that form Bosnia and Herzegovina. The other entity is the Serb Republic.
