Renewable energy firm Select Energy is interested in building a 95 MW PV power plant near the central city of Kavaje, the ministry said in a notice earlier this week.

The other three companies: physical security services provider Myrto Security, pomegranate cultivator Agro HRP3M, and energy company Hydrosolar Energy, are interested to develop a 2 MW solar project each, all three in areas near the southwestern city of Fier.

The Albanian government is pushing towards the diversification of the country’s energy sources to lower reliance on hydropower plants, which in 2023 accounted for 98.2% of the country’s total power output.
