December 20 (SeeNews) - Kosovo's national railway company, Infrastruktura e Hekurudhave te Kosoves (Infrakos), started the rehabilitation of the rail section from Fushe Kosova to Mitrovica, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said.
The works concern the refurbishment of 35 kilometres of track and the upgrade of five railway stations, in line with Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) standards, the EBRD said in a press release on Monday.
The construction of the Fushe Kosova - Mitrovica rail section is valued at 48 million euro ($50.9 million), local news agency Kosova Press reported on Monday.
The EBRD noted it has provided a 40 million euro loan to Infrakos for the project to rehabilitate a 149-kilometre railway which will connect Kosovo to Serbia to the north and North Macedonia to the south. The investment is also being financed with a 42 million euro loan from the European Investment Bank and an EU investment grant of about 83 million euro through the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF), the EBRD said.
