Kosovo Insurers 8-mo Gross Premium Income Rises 9.3% to 40 Mln Euro

Insurance companies in Kosovo reported 40 million euro ($51.3 million) in combined gross premium income for the first eight months of 2008, up by 9.3% on the year, Kosovo’s Central Bank said on Wednesday.

Insurers sold 340,383 insurance policies in the eight-month period, compared to 296,382 a year earlier.

Nine insurance companies operate in Kosovo: the local branches of Albanian state-run insurer INSIG, Albanian privately held Sigal and Sigma, together with Pristina-based Dardania, Dukagjini, Kosova e Re, Siguria, Sigkos and Sigurimi.

The gross premium income of insurers in Kosovo rose by 4.2% in 2007 to 50.8 million euro.
