October 19 (SeeNews) - The insurance companies operating in Kosovo reported a combined gross premium income of 41.3 million euro ($61.7 million) for the first seven months of 2009, up 18.7% year-on-year, Kosovo’s central bank said.
A total of 312,300 insurance policies were sold through July, up from 288,900 a year earlier.
Nine insurance companies operate in Kosovo: the local branches of Albanian privately-held INSIG, Sigal and Sigma, together with Pristina-based Dardania, Dukagjini, Kosova e Re, Siguria, Sigkos and Sigurimi.
The gross premium income of insurers in Kosovo rose by 11% to 56.4 million euro in 2008.
