JFE Shoji's Serbian unit seeks EIA for 40 mln euro plant - report

January 29 (SeeNews) - The Serbian subsidiary of Japan’s JFE Shoji Corporation has submitted a request for an environmental impact assessment (EIA) of a 40 million euro ($43.3 million) factory it plans to build in the central municipality of Indjija, local media reported.

The company plans to break ground for the factory, which will produce metal parts for electric motors and employ 200 workers, on March 18, media outlet eKapija quoted the head of the municipal government, Vladimir Gak, as saying last week.

JFE Shoji Corporation manufactures rotors and electric motors for the automotive industry, and cooperates with Japan’s Toyo Tires and Nidec, which are already operating in Serbia, the media reported.

According to the Serbian business registry, JFE Shoji Serbia was established in June 2023 with a capital of 663.9 million dinars ($6.1 million/5.7 million euro).

JFE Shoji Corporation processes and distributes steel products, iron and steel raw materials. It has 43 companies in Japan and 54 worldwide, according to its website.
