This compared to 5.013 billion euro in FDI Romania attracted in the first nine months of 2007 and 7.25 billion euro for all of last year which BNR reported earlier.

Equity stakes and reinvested earnings accounted for 52.7% of the total figure for the first nine months of 2008, with intra-group loans making up 47.3%, BNR said in a statement.

The country's current account deficit was 56.6% covered by FDI through September, it added. This compared to 42.5% cover rate for the January-September period of 2007.

Foreign direct investments in Romania could reach 10 billion euro at the end of 2008, Finance and Economy Minister Varujan Vosganian said earlier.
