BELGRADE (Serbia), September 11 (SeeNews) – Foreign direct investments (FDI) in Serbia halved on the year to 900 million euro ($1.3 billion) in the first seven months of 2009, local daily Politika reported on Friday quoting data from the central bank, NBS.

The figure includes the 400 million euro Gazprom paid in February for a 51% stake in Serbia’s oil monopoly NIS, Politika (www.politika.rs) said.

The only major source of additional FDI that Serbia counts on by the end of this year is the sale of its largest drug maker Galenika, Politika quoted Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic as saying earlier.

Serbia will offer for sale Galenika in September and will set the call price at 200 million euro, government sources said earlier.

Serbia attracted around 625 million euro in FDI during the first quarter of 2009, Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration Bozidar Djelic said in May. He also said that FDI in Serbia should reach some 1.5 billion euro in 2009. Trade and Services Minister Slobodan Milosavljevic said in April Serbia will get at least 1.0 billion euro in FDI this year, down from over $2.1 billion in 2008.
