BELGRADE (Serbia), October 9 (SeeNews) – Italian low-cost airline Wind Jet and its Swedish peer MCA Airlines are slated to launch flights to the town of Nis, in southern Serbia, in December this year, local broadcaster b92 reported on Friday.

The Konstantin Veliki Airport in Nis has already reached an agreement with Wind Jet about the carrier opening a regular service this winter, b92 (www.b92.net) reported, quoting Nis Mayor Milos Simonovic.

“The Swedish carrier has, in principle, agreed that its route to Sweden also include a stop-over at one airport in Germany,” Simonovic said without elaborating.

Simonovic added he hopes that Irish budget carrier Ryanair and UK-based Jet2 will also put Nis on their destination map from next summer.

“The arrival of these no-frills companies in Nis is made possible by this year’s ratification of the Open Sky agreement by Serbia’s parliament, as well as by an official document from the country’s flag carrier JAT Airways saying that it ‘does not have the capacity to boost its routes to Nis,” b92 quoted Simonovic as saying.

JAT Airways will drop from its upcoming winter schedule one of the routes it is operating out of the Konstantin Veliki Airport, Nis-Zurich, b92 said.
