ISTANBUL (Turkey), December 22 (SeeNews) – Indian engineering firm Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd, or BHEL, said on Monday it has won a 16.96 million euro ($20.79 million) contract for rehabilitating three units of electrostatic precipitators at the 430 megawatt (MW) Tuncbilek thermal power plant in Turkey.

The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract, won in an international competitive bidding called by Turkey’s state-owned power producer Elektrik Uretim A.S. (EUAS), envisages dismantling, supply, civil works, erection and commissioning of the three units, BHEL said in a filing with the Bombai stock exchange.

The contract is aimed at drastically reducing emission levels as part of Turkey’s renovation and modernisation programme for its old thermal power plants, BHEL said.

Last week, Turkish contractual construction services provider Celikler Taahhut Insaat ve Sanayi made the highest bid of $521 million in the government tender for the block sale of the Tuncbilek thermal power plant, located in the western Turkish province of Kutahya, and the 210 megawatt (MW) Orhaneli plant, located in the province of Bursa.
