"The mission will not discuss or negotiate IMF financial assistance to Romania, and its results will be made public together with the conclusions of the 2009 Article IV consultation," the IMF said in a press release on Saturday.
Romania's Finance and Economy Minister Varujan Vosganian denied last week local media reports that the country was to ask the IMF for financial assistance in tackling the effects of the global financial crisis.
"This is a follow-up of a 2003 mission that conducted the first financial sector assessment (FSAP) in Romania," the IMF said. The Romanian authorities have requested this follow-up mission long ago and its actual timing has been decided last year, it added.
